Tanta Hulsey worked in retail management for ten years, but in January 2012, after spending Christmas in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with her grandfather, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.

Midland College has announced that two of its Dual Credit Health Science instructors were recently selected as Honor Teachers by two Top 10 Legacy High School students. Midland College Baseball Head Coach Hector Rodriguez was recently named the 2024 WJCAC Baseball Coach of the Year as the All-WJCAC teams were selected by a vote of the conference coaches.

Midland College appoints new board member Mike Oestmann
The Midland College Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Mr. Mike Oestmann. He was sworn in by the Honorable Leah Robertson during the Board meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Oestmann will fill the position previously held by retiring Board member Paul Morris.

Midland College announces ChapConnect Instant Admissions program
Midland College announced a new admissions program known as the ChapConnect Instant Admissions program. The program is a collaboration between Midland College and Midland Independent School District (MISD), in which all MISD high school graduates are automatically accepted into Midland College. The announcement was made in a press release on May 23.

Midland College students accept intern positions at Warren CAT
Midland College hosted the Warren CAT Internship program signing day on May 22, recognizing three high school seniors who earned certificates and will now intern at Warren CAT. Announced in a Midland College Facebook post, the partnership aims to provide students with practical experience and financial assistance as they advance in their careers.

Midland College advisor finds lifelong connection with institution
Haley McNerlin, a college advisor at Midland College (MC), has had a long-standing relationship with the institution. Growing up, she regularly attended MC events such as Chaps Basketball games and the College's Holiday evening. "My family loved Chaps Basketball games, and I remember going to see Santa at the College’s Holiday evening,” she said. “I always felt at home at MC."

Midland College celebrates Spring 2024 Nursing and Respiratory Care graduates
Midland College recently conducted two pinning ceremonies to honor the Spring 2024 associate degree graduates of the Nursing and Respiratory Care programs. The traditional pinning and candle lighting ceremonies were attended by family and friends of the 12 Respiratory Care and 17 Nursing graduates. The events took place in the Allison Fine Arts Building, Wagner & Brown Auditorium.

UT Permian Basin (UTPB) and Midland College (MC) have collaborated to create Education Pathway to address the increasing demand for teachers in the region. The partnership, announced in a press release, was formalized with the signing of an agreement on May 7.

Midland College women’s basketball coach celebrates 700 career wins
Midland College faculty and staff gathered to honor an achievement in the career of Women’s Basketball Head Coach Ron Jones – surpassing 700 career wins. In recognition of the achievement, Jones was presented with a plaque "to commemorate such a significant achievement" in his coaching career. The announcement of this achievement was made in a Facebook post by Midland College.

Midland College assistant credits career success to father's work ethic
Joanne Thames was raised by a father with a 7th-grade education, yet his constant reading instilled in her a strong work ethic. Thames credits him for instilling the drive that propelled her through a career spanning over 30 years in the energy industry and the last two years in higher education. Her father fostered a love for reading in her, making Thames an avid reader who particularly enjoys delving into management books, mystery novels, and faith-based material. Thames is now the assistant to the executive director of Facilities & Grounds at Midland College.

Midland College welcomes new Starbucks outlet with discounts for students and staff
Midland College opened a new Starbucks location on their campus, located in the Marie Hall Academic Building, Room 217 (second floor). To celebrate the opening, students enrolled at Midland College are eligible for a 10 percent discount, while faculty and staff receive a 25 percent discount on all drinks.

Midland College alumna on surviving Rwandan Genocide as a young girl: 'I came to live in the United States purely by chance'
Midland College alumna Providence Nkurunziza has a harrowing story to tell. As an 11-year-old girl during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, Nkurunziza witnessed the brutal murder of many members of her family, including her parents and five siblings. Her life was spared thanks to her aunt, who asked for her help in caring for her newborn cousin. This traumatic event would shape Nkurunziza's life forever.
