Midland College recently highlighted the achievements of its dual credit applied technology students at the SkillsUSA District Conference. Students from programs such as Automotive, Collision, Diesel, HVAC, Welding, and Energy participated in district-level competitions, showcasing their technical skills.
The collaboration between Midland College (MC) and Midland Independent School District (ISD) has been instrumental in preparing students for these events. Students excelled across multiple categories, earning top placements and qualifying for the state competition.
Despite not placing this year, MC's welding students demonstrated significant skill and dedication in a competitive field. Overall, MC's dual credit students competed in 12 contests with 19 participants securing 19 medals.
“These results are a testament to the high-quality technical education and hands-on training provided at Midland College,” said Erick Gutierrez, MC’s Department Chair of Applied Technology. “We are proud of our students’ achievements and look forward to cheering them on as they compete at the state level.”
Jeff Horner, Executive Director-Career and Technical Education at Midland ISD stated: “We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by the students from Midland High and Legacy High. We appreciate Midland College's commitment to preparing the students in these technical programs and look forward to supporting our students as they advance to the state competition.”
Midland College continues its commitment to equipping students with essential technical skills through its partnership with Midland ISD. This collaboration reinforces MC’s position as a leader in workforce development within the Permian Basin.
