Midland College is set to host an evening of music featuring Michael Feinstein in a tribute to Tony Bennett, with the event scheduled for March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. This performance is part of the Phyllis and Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series and will showcase the Carnegie Hall Big Band.
The event is made possible through an endowment from Phyllis and Bob Cowan and support from the Rea Charitable Trust, allowing it to be free for the community. General admission seating does not require tickets, but preferred seating is available for Friends of the Series members. Those interested can contact the Midland College Foundation for more information.
Adrian Vega, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Midland College, stated, "We are honored to bring an artist of Michael Feinstein’s caliber to Midland College as part of the Phyllis and Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series." He added that this event underscores their commitment to offering cultural experiences at no cost to the community.
The program will include classic songs such as "Because of You," "Rags to Riches," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," among others. Feinstein, who was a close friend of Bennett, aims to provide interpretations that celebrate Bennett's legacy in American music.
The performance also highlights Carnegie Hall's history with a multimedia component reflecting on artists like Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra who have performed there. Feinstein remarked on Bennett's influence by calling him "one of the most enduring icons of the twentieth century."
This production is not associated with the Tony Bennett Estate.
