Midland College has announced the next event in its Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series, which will feature Dr. Abraham Verghese, a well-known physician and author from Stanford University. The lecture, titled “The Caring in Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities in a Technological Era,” is scheduled for March 25 at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. This event is open to the public without charge.
Dr. Verghese has gained recognition for his humanistic approach to healthcare, which emphasizes patient care. He has received several accolades for his work, including the National Humanities Medal. "We are honored to welcome Dr. Verghese to Midland College," stated Adrian Vega, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Midland College. "His profound insights into the future of healthcare and the importance of the doctor-patient relationship make this an event not to be missed."
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Verghese is an accomplished author whose novel "Cutting for Stone" was on The New York Times bestseller list for over two years and translated into more than 20 languages. His latest work, "The Covenant of Water," released in 2023, also debuted as a bestseller.
Dr. Verghese continues to influence discussions on medicine and technology through various platforms like his TED Talk “A Doctor’s Touch” and co-hosting the podcast Medicine and the Machine with Dr. Eric Topol.
This lecture series invites community participation in these important discussions about healthcare's future challenges and opportunities. While attendance is free for all, preferred seating is available for members of Friends of the Series.
