For the De La Rosa family, education is a priority. With three members set to graduate from Midland College in May 2025, their commitment to learning and support for one another have been unwavering.

Auden De La Rosa, a student in the Petroleum Energy Technology program and an employee of Exxon, will receive a Petroleum Energy Technician Certificate. "There’s so much opportunity right now … it’s really just deciding which direction you want to go in the industry," he said.

His wife, Mari, is pursuing an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree. Inspired by a high school history teacher she observed during her coursework, she stated, “He was very helpful...and that just kind of made me realize, you know what – I think this is where I fit.” She believes teaching offers universal opportunities.

Their daughter Abby has earned multiple certificates through Midland College's dual credit programs with MISD and is completing an associate degree in Radiologic Technology. Despite challenging coursework, she remarked on her motivation: “Just knowing that I can prove to myself that I can overcome something with hard work and dedication really makes it all worth it.”

The De La Rosas balance busy schedules filled with work, school, and family life. They often spend evenings doing homework together, sometimes turning into friendly competition. “We’re pretty competitive for sure,” Mari noted. “But at the end of the day, we all use it as motivation to keep us going.”

Midland College's welcoming environment and affordable programs attracted the family. Auden appreciated the small class sizes offering individual attention from instructors. Abby found MC’s offerings aligned well with her career path in healthcare.

“What’s great about Midland College is that they really work with you to ensure success,” Auden said. “It’s been perfect for us — whether it’s for an older adult like me or someone younger like Abby."

As graduation approaches in May 2025, the De La Rosas reflect on their journey as a team effort. Mari emphasized their belief: “If we can do it, anyone can...Education is something that never stops.”
