Midland City Council rejects crossing guard bid

The Midland City Council has rejected the apparent low bidder for school crossing guard services in a proposed $839,710 contract recommended by a staff committee. All seven members present voted against a motion to award the contract.

The Midland City Council held a public hearing on May 28 to discuss community requests for the allocation of more than $1.4 million in Community Development Block Grant Funds. Requests for the funding exceeded $2.8 million.


Midland Zoo gets zoning amendment approved

The Midland City Council has approved a zoning amendment that allows Zoo Midland to use a 4.4-acre property at 1507 Todd Drive for temporarily housing animals as they arrive in Midland. The council granted the special use designation during its meeting on May 28.


Ready Midland County avails damage assessment forms for storm affected residents

Ready Midland County is advising residents and business owners who have sustained any damage from the May 30 tornado to complete a short online damage assessment survey. The city of Midland reported that the tornado was located seven miles south of Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF) late Thursday afternoon.


El Burrito Restaurant out of business after 45 years

A Midland Mexican restaurant has closed its doors after nearly 50 years of operation. Founded in 1979, El Burrito Restaurant at 1106 N Big Spring St. served its last meal earlier this month.

Pfluger announces winner of 2024 congressional art competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) has announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for the 11th Congressional District of Texas: Killeen High School senior Emily Parsons with her piece titled "The American Dream." Emily’s artwork depicts a family at sunset, symbolizing American prosperity and happiness. The winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., for a year, where it can be viewed by visitors and Members of Congress.


FAA reauthorization act aims to boost aerospace innovation
