Midland ISD expanding YWLA program to include seniors

Midland ISD student-athletes interested in competing in sports during the summer will be given the chance. An athletic program has been established by the Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA) and will create a pathway for athletes to compete in University Interscholastic League (UIL) athletic events for their campus.

MPD warns citizens about bogus call made by person impersonating chief

The Midland Police Department (MPD) has alerted residents to a scam call in which the alleged caller identifies themselves as interim Chief of Police Greg Snow. According to the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, the message is a scam and was not approved by Snow.


MFD, other departments fight blaze on city's northeast side

The Midland Fire Department (MFD) was among a few in the Permian Basin to respond to a June 12 blaze in the 5000 block of East County Road 60. MFD joined the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department (NEVFD) and the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD) to address the incident, which occurred in the northeast part of the city.


Midland records 'monster' sales tax collection to end third quarter of fiscal year

The city of Midland reported that it completed the third quarter of the current fiscal year (FY) with a record sales tax collection. This achievement allows the city to remain consistent with last year’s record fiscal year total.


Governor Abbott appoints judges to new Fort Worth business court division

Governor Greg Abbott today announced his appointments to the new Eighth Business Court Division in Fort Worth, established last year to provide an efficient mechanism for businesses to resolve complex commercial disputes in Texas. The Governor has appointed Jerry Bullard and Brian Stagner as judges of the Eighth Business Court Division, effective September 1, 2024, with terms set to expire on September 1, 2026. Governor Abbott appoints judges to new Dallas business court division

Governor Greg Abbott announced appointments to the new First Business Court Division in Dallas, established last year to provide an efficient mechanism for resolving complex commercial disputes in Texas. The Governor appointed Andrea Bouressa and William “Bill” Whitehill as judges of the First Business Court Division, effective September 1, 2024, with terms expiring on September 1, 2026. This division includes the counties of Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Kaufman, and Rockwall.


Midland Animal Services launches pet pantry program

Midland Animal Services announced the launch of a new pet food pantry during a press conference on June 12 to help residents provide food for their pets. The pantry will provide pet food to the public beginning June 13.
