Construction is ongoing for the $232 million Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center, which has provided a timeline for its facility opening.

"Progress is really moving at the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center," the organization wrote in a Facebook post. "We are getting closer to opening our doors in April 2026 and ready to serve our community." The center will offer inpatient and outpatient mental health services to assist individuals of all ages in overcoming their challenges.

According to a news release, the 200-bed building will cover 54 acres behind the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center. It will provide both short- and long-term treatment for psychiatric patients of all ages and include a crisis stabilization unit, outpatient center, and community education center.

The Texas Facilities Commission is developing the project. Midland County Hospital District and Ector County Hospital District will support a subsidiary that will manage the facility. The construction is funded by the state of Texas along with various individuals and charitable organizations from the Permian Basin.

Robins & Morton serves as the general contractor, while HKS is responsible for design. The project was ceremonially topped off in mid-December. Robins & Morton Division Manager Eric Groat expressed enthusiasm about the project's progress, stating it would help meet the growing need for behavioral healthcare services in Texas. "We are getting closer to delivering this facility, which will serve our community for many years to come," Groat said.
