Pfluger introduces bills targeting violence against police by visa holders and students

Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) has introduced two new bills aimed at enhancing public safety and reinforcing the rule of law. The first bill, the Uproot Rioting International Students Engaged in Radical Subversion Act (UPRISERS) Act, will deport individuals in the U.S. on visas who engage in violent activities. The second piece of legislation, the Freeze Aid for Student Assaulters (FAFSA) Act of 2024, will strip federal student aid from those convicted of assaulting police officers or participating in riots.


Three MISD schools named to Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll for high STARR achievement

Three Midland Independent School District (MISD) campuses have been named to the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll for their academic performance. The honor, in its ninth year, is given to 12% of schools throughout the state, accounting for 835 designations.


MISD recognizes students who achieved awards in June at board meeting

Steven Ortiz and the Legacy High School student athletic trainers were recognized at a recent Midland Independent School District (MISD) board meeting for qualifying for state recognition with the Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association. The board also acknowledged other student achievements in June, including winners of the American Heart Association Kid's Heart Challenge, finalists of the I Am Texas Writing and Art Contest, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) Academics State medal winners.

The Midland Police Department (MPD) was among the Permian Basin law enforcement agencies to receive proceeds from the 11th annual Bustin’ for Badges Clay Shoot. The event took place from May 1-3 at Windwalker Farm in Martin County and raised at least $140,000 for each agency, including MPD.
