A four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft awaited Midland Independent School District (MISD) Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) cadets during a recent visit to Dyess Air Force Base.

According to a Midland ISD Facebook post, the cadets boarded a Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules aircraft during the visit. "This hands-on visit reinforced classroom instruction and expanded the cadets’ understanding of aerospace science, leadership, and military operations," wrote MISD.

The post further explained that MISD students in grades 9–12 can participate in the Air Force-sponsored program AFJROTC. The student-backed organizational structure utilizes a mix of academic coursework, leadership training, and personal development within the program.

MISD also noted that AFJROTC cadets are eligible for numerous scholarships. These include the J-100 Character-in-Leadership Scholarship, the Flight Academy Scholarship to earn a private pilot’s license, and the Cyber Academy Scholarship to gain college-level credits in cyber education.
