The Midland Police Department (MPD) was among the Permian Basin law enforcement agencies to receive proceeds from the 11th annual Bustin’ for Badges Clay Shoot. The event took place from May 1-3 at Windwalker Farm in Martin County and raised at least $140,000 for each agency, including MPD.

According to a June 29 Facebook post by MPD, it will use the funds to purchase equipment for its officers.

MPD thanked volunteers, participants, and others who devote themselves to Bustin’ for Badges year after year.

Permian Basin CBS affiliate KOSA News reported that it is up to the beneficiaries how they will spend their money. Aside from new equipment, departments have spent their funds on bomb training and K-9 programs.

Jimmy Young, the event’s president, told Permian Basin NBC affiliate KWES News that when it started more than a decade ago, organizers did not expect it to be as big as it is. Young said that the community hit a home run with its support.

According to KOSA, the inaugural Bustin’ for Badges donated $25,000 to each agency, nearly 20% of the current amount distributed. The non-profit organization was established in 2014 and has raised more than $4 million to date, Midland Times reported.
