The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the results for grades 3-8 from the 2023 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test, and the Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) is proud of its progress since the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to a NewsWest 9 report.
“Continuous improvement is the theme for our ECISD students' most recent performance on STAAR and end of course exams,” ECISD said in an Aug. 23 Facebook post.
The post included a video of Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri reacting to the public school district’s most recent performance.
“[I’m] so excited as superintendent to know the strategic plan we put in place is working,” Muri said. “It continues to have the right kind of effects.”
NewsWest 9 reported that ECISD made strides in subjects like Algebra One, English one and two, biology and U.S. history.
The district had made it a goal to reach state-level requirements, which Muri told the station it was able to do this year, according to the report.
"The bigger message is that fact that we're closing that gap,” he said. “We have been behind the state for many, many years and finally we are doing the right kind of work. That is our goal not to just meet the state where they are, but to become higher and achieve more than the state is achieving."
Muri said ECISD has more work to be done, according to the report.
Midland Times previously reported that House Bill (HB) 3906, which was passed during the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019, paved the way for the redesign of the STAAR.
The state’s accountability, or A-F ratings, will be released in the middle of next month, according to the publication.
