A student from Ben Milam Elementary has achieved a notable milestone by raising the most money in West Texas for the American Heart Association's (AHA) Kids Heart Challenge.

According to a Facebook post from Midland Independent School District (MISD), Camille B. raised $4,229.21. "Inspired by her great-grandpa, Camille went above and beyond to support heart health and kids with heart conditions," the district said. "Each year MISD students and kids across the country raise money to promote heart health and fund research for children with heart conditions."

The Kids Heart Challenge is described on the AHA's website as an engaging event where students learn about their hearts while contributing to others by raising funds for the association. The initiative is a service-learning fundraising program that empowers students to understand heart health, raise funds for research and support, and acquire essential life skills such as CPR.

According to the organization's website, students gather funds through various activities, including soliciting donations from family and friends and participating in challenges. Participants engage in enjoyable, age-appropriate activities and lessons centered on heart health, which cover topics like healthy eating, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco.
