Midland College (MC) is aiming to prepare physicians to serve in both metropolitan and rural areas.
According to a Facebook post by MC, one of the students involved in this initiative is Dilan Gutierrez. His participation in the Primary Care Pathway Program has ignited his interest in rural healthcare and fostered a sense of leadership and service. Gutierrez credits the institution with providing him the experience necessary for advancement in the field.
In a video accompanying the Facebook post, Gutierrez expressed his longstanding motivation to help others. He described his educational experience as "phenomenal," stating that the school has equipped him with essential tools for becoming a competent physician.
"I come from a small rural town," he said. "Coming here to Midland, I heard a lot about the opportunities the Primary Care Pathway Program offered. (The program has) a lot of mentorship and guidance and really prepares students to go into healthcare."
According to information on MC's website, pre-med students have two pathways available for medical school preparation. The traditional pre-med pathway offers coursework and advising designed to facilitate a smooth transition to a four-year institution before applying to medical school. Alternatively, the Primary Care Pathway Program provides an accelerated route enabling students to become physicians within seven years.
