Midland College’s Risk Management Institute has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Texas Mutual Insurance Company.
"Midland College’s Risk Management Institute offers free workplace safety courses thanks to a generous grant from Texas Mutual Insurance," the school wrote in a Facebook post. "In fact, for the 21st year, Texas Mutual has awarded MC $100K to support safer workplaces in our community."
According to the school's website, the Risk Management Institute provides workplace safety courses for community employers, workers, and the general public. The courses cover topics such as back safety, fall protection, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training, confined spaces, drug and alcohol awareness for supervisors, and CPR/first aid.
The website also states that Texas Mutual funds 10 community colleges in Texas, including Midland College, for safety classes. The school’s Risk Management Institute began in May 2006, and over the past two years, 1,700 people have participated in its free courses.
