The City of Midland has recognized a group of firefighters from the Midland Fire Department (MFD) with its Be the Energy (BTE) award. This acknowledgment was shared in a Facebook post by the fire department.

According to the March 26 post, the city honored firefighters Trey Eichorst, Arnol Carrasco, Mark Escandon, Christopher Crump, and Nathan Reyna for their response to a house fire in the early morning hours of February 19. Initially, MFD assumed no one was inside the residence. However, upon arrival, bystanders informed them that a two-year-old child was still inside.

The firefighters entered the house to rescue the child. "Through heavy smoke and limited visibility, the firefighter located the crib, carried the baby out, and got them to safety," MFD said in their post. "Moments later, the baby took a breath and began to cry — a huge relief to everyone on scene."

Midland Times reported that according to MFD, the child was identified as an infant female who was listed in critical condition.
