The Midland Police Department’s (MPD) dispatch team has been recognized with the City of Midland’s Be the Energy (BTE) Award, as reported in a Facebook post.

According to MPD, the team was honored for its actions on March 11 when the police department received a bomb threat. The dispatchers successfully evacuated, relocated, and maintained seamless communication with field first responders during the incident. "They handled it flawlessly," the police department said. "Their resilience, adaptability, and professionalism shined through, and we couldn’t be more impressed! A huge thank you to our dispatchers for ‘Being the Energy’ when it mattered most!"

This marks the second occasion that city dispatchers have received the BTE Award. According to Midland Times, Adam Reed earned the accolade in early March for taking proactive measures in response to staff shortages affecting the city's dispatch team during night shifts.

The BTE Award is named after the city's motto and was first distributed in December 2023. It is intended for employees who have contributed to reducing costs associated with demolishing abandoned buildings.
