The Field’s Edge, a Christ-centered community serving the homeless in Midland, announced a leadership transition as it moves into a new phase of growth and sustainability.

Founder and current CEO John-Mark Echols will step down from his position and transition into the role of Chief Ministry Officer. The shift reflects his decision to focus on direct ministry, building relationships with the homeless, and advancing the organization’s spiritual mission.

Echols’ decision to transition into a new role comes after a year of reflection and personal health challenges, which he says strengthened his conviction to return to ministry.

“When Briana and I were called to start The Field’s Edge in 2016, we could not have imagined the transformative adventure God had in store for us,” Echols said. “What began as a vision to serve our homeless neighbors has grown into a thriving community that has changed countless lives, including our own. Serving as CEO has been one of the greatest honors of my life, but I now feel called to return to direct ministry while making room for a seasoned nonprofit leader to guide us into this next chapter.”

“While trials and suffering are never easy, I have come to see these challenges as a strange mercy and hidden grace,” he said. “I’ll never forget how God provided the bulk of our Phase I capital funding during a time when it seemed impossible—amid a global pandemic and negative oil prices. It was only by His hand that we succeeded.”

As Chief Ministry Officer, Echols will focus on expanding the organization’s ministry efforts, strengthening community relationships, and continuing to share the Gospel with those in need.

The Field’s Edge is actively searching for a new CEO to lead the organization into its next phase of growth. The selection process will prioritize candidates who align with the organization’s mission and vision.
