Midland firefighters, in collaboration with the Professional Firefighters Association of Midland (PFAM) and City Council members Amy Stretcher Burkes and John Burkholder, raised more than $67,000 during this year's “Fill the Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The campaign ran from March 24 to 28.

“Midland, we are honored to serve you and we’re continually taken aback by your generosity and support for those in need,” PFAM wrote in a Facebook post on March 31. “Thank you all for helping to make this year’s Fill The Boot drive so impactful for everyone involved!”

The “Fill the Boot” campaign, a partnership between the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and MDA since 1954, involves firefighters collecting donations to support individuals with neuromuscular diseases. According to its website, over nearly 70 years the initiative has raised over $700 million nationwide to fund research, care, and advocacy for those affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related conditions.
