The Midland County Hospital District Board of Directors convened for its regular monthly meeting on March 27 at Midland Memorial Hospital, where members reviewed financial statements, approved resolutions, and discussed upcoming initiatives.
During the meeting, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Marie Castro presented the February 2025 financial report, noting that Midland Health recorded a net gain of $545,924 for the month, slightly surpassing the budgeted projection of $542,924. Castro also provided an update on the hospital district’s bond rating, which remains at “A-” with a stable outlook.
Several key items were approved by the board, including updates to the medical staff bylaws as requested by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rohith Saravanan, as well as revisions to the case management plan presented by Castro. Vice President and Chief Information Officer Shanidy Shook received approval for a five-year renewal of the Oracle Cerner electronic medical record system, which continues to meet operational needs and remains competitive. The board also approved a contract with AVI-SPL for audiovisual installations in the Professional Office Building Conference Center, a 5,760-square-foot space designed for both internal use and broader community functions.
Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Kit Bredimus presented the Spring 2025 Semi-Annual Nursing Report, which included results from the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators survey and a staffing update. Meanwhile, Director of Planning, Marketing, and Communications Tasa Richardson provided an overview of recent public relations efforts, which included campaigns focused on cardiac health and community engagement, as well as awareness initiatives addressing measles safety measures and the recent autism certification for the MCHD Police Department.
The board also reviewed tax collections for February 2025, reporting $9.35 million collected for maintenance and operations, $2.7 million for interest and sinking funds, and $3.35 million in sales tax revenue. Year-to-date sales tax collections totaled $15.25 million.
Looking ahead, President and CEO Stephen Bowerman outlined key topics for future board meetings. Dr. Kennedy of Midland College is expected to present information regarding an upcoming bond, while discussions will continue regarding potential expansion plans for Midland Health. The board will also consider a proposal to establish a mental health services district to oversee the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center, a joint initiative requiring approval from both the Midland County Hospital District and the Ector County Hospital District.
