The Rockhounds will have a familiar leader for the 2025 season as Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that the manager will return to Midland for his second season.

According to an MLB news release, before coming to Midland, Petit served as manager for Stockton in 2023. His playing career began when the A’s signed him in 2001 at age 16, and he made his major league debut with Oakland in 2008. After an 18-year professional career, Petit began his managerial career with Double-A Corpus Christi in the Astros organization, a role he held through the 2022 season.

Petit will not be the only returning member of the Rockhounds staff. The news release states that hitting coach Juan Dilone, athletic trainer Eric Fasth, and sport performance coach Jake Kistaitis are all returning. New additions to the club’s field staff include pitching coach Javy Guerra, assistant hitting coach Gunnar Buhner, and athletic trainer Rachel Purcell.

The upcoming season marks the 53rd overall in the franchise’s history and the 26th season in the RockHounds/A’s affiliation. According to Midland Times, the team lost the 2024 Texas League Championship to Arkansas Travelers last year.
