An alleged vehicular accident involving a pedestrian has drawn the attention of the Midland Police Department (MPD).

According to a December 9 Facebook post attributed to the Permian Basin law enforcement agency, the incident occurred on the night of December 7 at around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Lamesa Road and Wall Street.

MPD officers at the scene reported that a man driving a 2007 GMC pickup was traveling north in the outside lane of the 100 block of South Lamesa Road. He then purportedly encountered a man walking. "When he approached the intersection, he observed a male subject in the center of the lane of travel," the post said, citing a police report. "(The driver) attempted to avoid the subject but was unable to and struck (the pedestrian) with the front right side of the vehicle."

Authorities have said that the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identity remains unknown as police are attempting to contact next of kin. The accident is currently under investigation.
