The Midland Police Department (MPD) is mourning the loss of another North Texas law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty.
According to MPD, Terrell police officer Jacob Candanoza died at the age of 28 on the night of December 8 while conducting a traffic stop. The Terrell Police Department (TPD) said on its Facebook page that Candanoza was shot and succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
MPD paid tribute to Candanoza, who joined the force over the summer and was set to celebrate his birthday on December 14, in a December 10 Facebook post. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time," the post said.
Candanoza’s obituary notes that funeral services for the officer will be held at Lakepoint Church in Rockwall on December 17. His family requests contributions to a memorial fund established to assist his wife and daughter instead of flowers. Donations can be made at https://shorturl.at/SxcQ3.
Candanoza is the second police officer whom MPD has memorialized in recent weeks. The Permian Basin law enforcement agency extended its condolences to the Greenville Police Department (GPD) late last month following the death of Officer Cooper Dawson, who was also killed in the line of duty.
