Idea Travis Elementary is set to undergo a $650,000 expansion project, slated to commence in 2025.

According to a filing with a state regulatory agency, Cortney Smith, chief of facilities and operations for Midland Independent School District (MISD), is leading the project under the working title "IDEA Travis Portables 2025." The project will involve constructing two modular classroom structures containing four classrooms, covering an area of 5,500 square feet.

The filing indicates that the project is expected to start on February 10, 2025, and conclude by June 30, 2025. The construction timelines are preliminary but suggest that the district anticipates the expansion development will take four months. The school is located at 900 E. Gist Ave. in the southeast portion of the city. JSA Architect, an Odessa-based design firm, collaborated with the school district on this project.

In 2020, MISD partnered with IDEA Public Schools to manage Travis Elementary. According to MYSA.com, this decision came after the school experienced one of the longest failing streaks in Texas. The collaboration offered MISD an alternative solution for managing the school instead of having its operations taken over by the Texas Education Agency.
