Midland College, in collaboration with Mil2Civ, Permian Warrior Partnership, Midland Run Crew, and Workforce Solutions, hosted its annual Veterans Day Celebration on November 9. The event aimed to honor military personnel by bringing together veterans, families, and community members. Activities included speeches from notable figures, tributes to the United States Armed Forces members, a 5K run and fun run, as well as a job and resource fair for veterans in the Permian Basin.
Dr. Jeff Struecker served as the keynote speaker. Dr. Struecker is an Army Ranger Chaplain known for his service during the Battle of Mogadishu. He shared his appreciation for the community's support: “I had the honor of joining Midland College for their special Veterans Day Celebration. I’m so grateful for the opportunity … Seeing our community come together in honor of our nation’s heroes was truly inspiring.”
Daniel Ortega, Director of Veteran Services at Midland College, commented on the importance of community turnout: “Seeing such a great turnout means so much to our veteran community. It shows our veterans that they are valued and appreciated, and it reinforces the bond between them and the community."
Midland College President Dr. Damon Kennedy also expressed gratitude towards attendees while emphasizing support for veterans: “At Midland College, we are devoted to creating a supportive environment where veterans feel respected and encouraged to achieve their goals,” he stated.
