Midland High School's senior class recently attended a presentation by Sean Carter, a guest speaker who highlighted the risks associated with drinking and driving.

According to a Facebook post by Midland Independent School District (ISD), Carter, representing the nonprofit organization When Sean Speaks, shared his personal experience of an incident that drastically changed his life. "Afterwards, they signed a pledge to drive safe and sober," the district said. "He will visit Midland Legacy High School (today) to continue sharing this important message. Thank you to the Texas Department of Transportation for bringing this event to MISD students."

According to the When Sean Speaks website, Carter was a college student at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls when he was involved in a severe car accident on March 27, 2005. He was riding with a friend who had been drinking and suffered a traumatic brain injury when their vehicle collided with a tree. As a result, Carter is unable to walk and communicates only through a computer.

The website further details that Carter sustained multiple fractures and internal injuries from the crash. Despite these challenges, he has become an influential motivational speaker at high schools and colleges, cautioning students about the perils of drinking and driving.
