Midland College is set to host a Veterans Day celebration on November 9, 2024, in collaboration with Mil2Civ and Permian Warrior Partnership. The event, themed “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service,” will include a variety of activities such as a 1-mile Fun Run, a 5K walk/run, a traditional veterans ceremony, a cake-cutting, and a resource and job fair aimed at supporting veterans across the Permian Basin.
Daniel Ortega, Midland College Director of Veteran Outreach, emphasized the significance of the event: “Midland College's Veterans Day Celebration is a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together, show gratitude, and honor the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.”
Ortega further noted that the event serves as more than just an occasion to remember service. It is also about acknowledging "the dedication, resilience, and commitment that define the spirit of those who have served our country."
Dr. Jeff Struecker will be featured as the guest speaker for this year's celebration. A U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Famer with experience in 17 combat deployments over five U.S. conflicts—including the mission known as Black Hawk Down—Dr. Struecker brings unique insights from his career.
“Having U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Famer Dr. Jeff Struecker as our guest speaker for this year’s Veterans Day ceremony is truly an honor,” Ortega stated. He added that Dr. Struecker's service exemplifies "the courage and dedication of all our veterans."
The event is supported by sponsors including Silvertip Completion Services, Certarus Low Carbon Energy Solutions, Cintas, 7Brew, Workforce Solutions Permian Basin, Mil2Civ and Midland Run Crew.
Midland College invites all community members to participate in this day dedicated to honoring veterans' loyalty and service.
