Midland College has appointed Lori Haltom as the Executive Director of its new College and Career Connections (C3) initiative. This program is a collaboration between Midland College and Midland Independent School District, aiming to promote college and career awareness starting from the sixth grade. The initiative emphasizes a growth mindset and seeks to engage students and families in dual credit, postsecondary education, and career opportunities.

Lori Haltom, who has lived in Midland for eight years and is a lifelong West Texan with two decades of experience in education, expressed her commitment to the students and faculty of MISD. “I’m still very invested in MISD and the students at MISD, knowing that this is a dual venture that will allow me to continue to meet with both the adults and the students on those campuses that I love,” said Haltom.

Reflecting on her own experiences as a first-generation college graduate from an economically disadvantaged background, Haltom shared how guidance counseling played a pivotal role in her education journey. “What C3 is doing is appealing to the kid I was many years ago,” she said. She emphasized that C3 aims to combine effective elements of guidance counseling to inform kids and families about dual credit opportunities, scholarships, and post-secondary education options.

Haltom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Texas Permian Basin. Her career includes teaching English, coaching softball, and serving as Principal at Goddard Junior High.

Midland College offers various programs for students interested in exploring educational opportunities through their Welcome Center.
