The Texas Association of Career and Technical Education (TACTE) Program of Excellence Award has been granted to Midland College's natural gas compression program.
According to a news release, the program was recognized for its significant impact on education and the natural gas sector in the Permian Basin area. TACTE aims to advance career and technical education throughout Texas. The award is presented annually to educational programs that align with its objectives.
"The Natural Gas Compression Program at Midland College has significantly fostered collaboration between MC, the diesel industry, and the natural gas industry, creating a symbiotic relationship that benefits both the educational institution and the industry at large," said Pete Avalos, Midland College’s Dean of Applied Technology. Avalos added that the program has improved networking in the area and filled the employment gap in the Permian Basin Region.
The release noted that Midland College’s program has cultivated highly skilled workers for employment in the area's natural gas sector. The TACTE selection committee highlighted the program’s ability to provide students with relevant, hands-on training.
