Midland Independent School District (MISD) has announced that Liliana Iza, Erica Lujan, and Lauren Vargas are part of this year's cohort in Texas Tech University's Principal Fellows Program.

According to a district news release, the three educators are completing their master’s degrees as they prepare for the next phase of their careers. MISD and Texas Tech created the Principal Fellowship to increase the number of qualified candidates entering campus administration roles.

The program offers teachers the chance to become certified campus principals by covering tuition, certification fees, and book costs. Participants receive direct mentorship from experienced principals while maintaining limited classroom responsibilities to facilitate a smoother transition.

"It's been eye-opening; you don't realize how many things are going on throughout an entire campus," said Iza, who completed her fellowship at Legacy Freshman High School. "Now as a principal fellow, I am able to effectively recognize and address the needs of both students and staff."

According to the news release, Lujan credited collaboration with school leadership for providing her with growth opportunities as a leader. Vargas said that the program made it easier for her to advance in her educational career by challenging her and offering insights into school administration.
