The Midland Independent School District (MISD) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on June 4 for its new elementary school. The campus is the first of the 2023 bond projects to be constructed.

According to a press release issued by MISD, the school building will cover 92,500 square feet with a projected completion date of August 2025.

The new school will initially educate students in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade before transitioning to pre-K to fifth grade when the Permian Basin school district reconfigures with the opening of new secondary campuses in 2028.

According to the release, the school will accommodate more than 800 students when it opens its doors. The project also carries a price tag of $53.3 million.

The release stated that the school's design will be similar to those of Yarbrough and Fasken Elementary Schools, which were made possible by the 2021 bond.

Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard said in the release, "It's a fortunate time for Midlanders to be investing in education."

The new school is located in the Lone Star Trails subdivision in northeast Midland.
