Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF) was the site of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated triannual disaster exercise on the morning of May 30. As part of the exercise, military aircraft and grey dummies were seen at the airport.

According to MAF Deputy Director Nick Krakovec, airports with commercial flights are required every three years to perform an exercise to test their emergency plan. "The event makes everyone well prepared for a real-world disaster," he said in a Facebook video posted by the airport. The last disaster exercise was in May of 2021.

The disaster exercise involved a simulated plane crash. Not only Midland first responders from station 7 participated, but so did their counterparts from Odessa.

As stated on its website, MAF ranks eighth among primary commercial service airports in Texas. The airport is owned and operated by the city of Midland and offers more than 20 daily departures to several major airports including Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Denver International Airport (DEN).
