The Midland Police Department (MPD) marked its 84th anniversary on April 1, as noted in a Facebook post.

According to the MPD, the department was established in 1941, 57 years after the City of Midland was founded as a depot on the Texas and Pacific Railway. "Since 1941, MPD has proudly served and protected the Midland community," the Permian Basin law enforcement agency said in the post. "Here’s to 84 years of dedication, service, and commitment."

The police department also expressed gratitude to past and present officers who have contributed to making a difference.

The MPD is headquartered at 601 N. Loraine St. in downtown Midland. Its mission statement emphasizes developing personnel and managing resources to foster effective partnerships with the community. This aims to improve quality of life through fair and impartial police services while maintaining respect for human dignity. The core values of MPD are professionalism, integrity, respect, accountability, and vigilance.
