The Midland Fire Department and the Midland Police Department responded to a collision on State Highway 191 on the evening of April 2, according to a press release issued by the City of Midland.
Authorities reported that the accident involved two vehicles on the eastbound service road in the 12300 block of State Highway 191. A preliminary investigation by the Midland Police Department indicated that a 2022 Ram 2500 and another unspecified vehicle were traveling in the same direction and lane.
According to police, "The second vehicle allegedly traveled at a very high rate of speed when it struck the rear right side of the pickup truck." The impact pushed the Ram through a cable barrier separating the service road from the main lanes of Highway 191, causing it to enter those lanes. After this initial impact, "the second vehicle continued eastbound on the service road, leaving the roadway," they said. It then traveled through a barbed wire fence and came to rest in a nearby caliche lot.
Police said that the Ram's 44-year-old male driver was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The individuals in the second vehicle sustained more serious injuries. According to police, "the vehicle’s 24-year-old driver, a man, was listed in critical condition as of the morning of April 3," while his passenger, a 23-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries.
