The city of Midland has issued an advisory for travelers intending to use the Midland International Air & Space Port (MAF) this summer. The advice comes in the wake of equipment issues experienced by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on May 9. With the 2024 summer travel season expected to commence during Memorial Day Weekend later this month, passengers are urged to arrive at MAF a few hours ahead of their scheduled flights.

According to a Facebook post by the city, the TSA also encourages passengers to check as much of their baggage as possible. "Doing so will help to alleviate time during checkpoint screening in the event machinery has a problem," said the post.

The city anticipates an increase in passenger traffic at MAF this summer. In line with this expectation, airport officials suggest that travelers should aim to arrive at the facility at least two hours ahead of time.

As stated on its website, MAF ranks eighth among primary commercial service airports in Texas. The airport is owned and operated by the city of Midland and offers more than 20 daily departures to several major airports including Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), and Denver International Airport (DEN).
