Legacy High School Band unveiled a new, custom built and wrapped trailer to the public on May 15. The newly designed transport trailer will house all of the band's instruments, uniforms, and gear.
The trailer is pulled by a Midland Independent School District (MISD) tractor unit and includes an automated ramp door. The total cost of the trailer was $205,000. MISD contributed $100,000 to the project, while the Legacy Band Booster Club raised the remaining funds, Midland Times was told during a tour with booster club President Amber Pena and Treasurer Helga Hoban.
"We wrote grants, asked parents and the community for funds, and held events," said Pena.
Steven Dojahn, Legacy Band Director, described the new trailer. "Going from a refurbished Frito Lay box truck to this trailer that is brand new and custom designed is a significant improvement. We would pile everything we could in the box van and into the back of parents' trucks, which caused a lot of unloading and sorting," he said.
The trailer wrap was designed by Pena, Dojahn, Hoban, and others. The design includes the “Rebel’s logo” and the “horizon and pump jacks familiar with West Texas,” according to Hoban.
Legacy Band Booster Club provides opportunities for all band students. More than 50% of students are classified as economically disadvantaged. The program is crucial in funding performances, activities, and trips, and helps to elevate music education, enriching students' growth and development, according to their website.
