Seth Herman, the current chief of police in Midland, is poised to become Lubbock's next police chief pending city council confirmation.

The City of Lubbock made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing Herman as the sole finalist selected from a pool of four top candidates for the position left vacant since Lubbock's Police Chief Floyd Mitchell's resignation in September.

"In light of Chief Seth Herman's departure to assume the role of Police Chief in Lubbock, the City of Midland expresses gratitude for his many years of dedicated service and leadership,” the City of Midland said in a statement. “We wish him the best in his new endeavor."

The confirmation of Herman's appointment will be deliberated by the Lubbock City Council during its regular meeting scheduled for May 14. If confirmed, he is set to assume his new role at the Lubbock Police Department starting June 3, as stated by the city.

According to the City of Midland, Seth Herman was sworn in as the Midland Police Department's Chief on December 18, 2018. Herman is a 25-year veteran of Midland Police Department and has served in varied units throughout his career; spanning patrol, K9, SWAT, Gang Unit, and Narcotics.
