City of Midland unveils plan for community development

The City of Midland introduced a 5-year strategic plan to improve its communities and become the safest city in West Texas. The plan, which includes key areas of focus, long-term objectives and a set of guiding principles for Midland, sets a roadmap for years 2024 to 2029.

The strategic plan was included in an email alert from Mayer Lori Blong on Jan. 29. The mission statement of the plan is to “deliver exceptional services and promote a high quality of life and place for all our citizens.”

“Midland is entering 2024 with significant momentum, thanks to collaborative efforts to understand and address the needs of our community,” said Mayor Lori Blong in an emailed statement to Midland Times. “Our Strategic Plan, shaped by comprehensive input from Midland's residents and stakeholders, serves as a guide in the prudent allocation of taxpayer funds.”

According to the email, the city adheres to the guiding principles of I-FORCE: Integrity, Financial Stewardship, Outstanding Service, Respect, Collaboration, and Excellence. Emphasis is placed on communication, customer service, economic development, fiscal responsibility, legislation, quality of place, and technology improvements.

Priorities for the City of Midland involve enhancing public safety programs, improving pedestrian and motorist safety, implementing effective code enforcement strategies, revitalizing neighborhoods, enhancing animal services, and growing and retaining public safety resources, according to the plan, according to the plan.

New efforts will be directed toward community engagement, fostering relationships with foundations and outside businesses, creating an inclusive living environment, establishing programs, and building a top-tier parks system in the region.

According to the plan, the city will recruit and retain a diverse workforce, hone public servant proficiency, implement cutting-edge practices, promote a well-balanced customer service philosophy, deliver services timely and efficiently, and ensure financial stability and accountability.

“With the City Council's unanimous vote to implement the Strategic Plan, we can move forward in confidence to reinforce a strong economy with high-quality jobs and a commitment to maintaining public safety, enhancing the quality of life for our citizens, and ensuring that Midland evolves as a prosperous, vibrant, and sustainable community,” said Mayor Blong.
