A motorist implicated in a hit-and-run incident on Thursday in southeast Midland is set to face an additional charge following the death of the 10-year-old victim, as reported by the Midland Police Department. The juvenile passed away on Friday morning.

Rogelio Ortiz, 50, is alleged to have struck a juvenile on Thursday afternoon in the 1900 block of South Lamesa Road, according to a news release from the Midland Police Department. The forthcoming charge will be hit-and-run, accident causing death.

Ortiz was apprehended on February 8 at approximately 4:35 p.m., after he reportedly hit a juvenile with a truck during a hit-and-run incident, as stated in another news release from the Midland Police Department. The suspect allegedly left the scene leaving the juvenile critically injured.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that a black truck had struck the juvenile who was attempting to cross the road after leaving school, according to yet another news release from the Midland Police Department. The child was airlifted to Lubbock in critical condition before succumbing to injuries on Friday.

An officer located and detained Ortiz on Thursday, as reported in a subsequent news release from the Midland Police Department.
