Midland County Livestock Show celebrates 72nd year

The 72nd annual Midland County Livestock Show took place at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena from Jan. 10 to 13. The event, held in collaboration with County Agents, Vocational Ag Instructors, and the 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) clubs of Midland County, marked another year of recognizing the efforts of young individuals in feeding, fitting and showcasing livestock.

On the initial day of the show, cattle were judged. The subsequent day featured assessments for both poultry and swine. The third day was dedicated to judging lamb and goat entries.

The spotlight of the event highlighted the achievements of participants in various livestock categories. There were a total of six judged categories including steer, swine, lamb, rabbit, goat and poultry. The following people were named the winners of each category: Tatum Bales in the steer category;  Cambrey Wilson in the swine category; Kimber Beggs in the lamb category; Markleigh Matthies in the rabbit category; Mason Lee in the goat category; and Lance Griffith in the poultry category.

The organizers, including officers and directors of the Midland County Livestock Association, expressed their gratitude to all involved parties. In the schedule of events posted on their Facebook page, the organizers gave their “sincere thanks to all the members of the Livestock Association, the spectators, buyers, parents, and workers.” The post went on to say,  “It takes the efforts of all to make the show a success.” 

Following the showing of all the livestock, the last day of the show was the sale day. Those who participated were able to bid and purchase livestock that was presented in the sale lots. According to the sales list posted on their Facebook page, there were a total of 94 sale lots.
