Midland city officials marked the completion of renovations at the baseball complex in Reyes-Mashburn-Nelms Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 19.
Mayor Lori Blong and city council members John Norman and John Burkholder participated in the event alongside community members. According to a Facebook post, the renovations represent a $16 million investment, adding six new artificial turf fields to the community.
Among these fields are home fields for the Eastern Little League and two high school fields honoring Midland standouts Mike Timlin and Randy Velarde. "A huge win for local baseball and future tournaments," the post said. Norman expressed pride in the investment on his Facebook page, saying it brings changes for the next generation.
According to Midland Times, the city has recently achieved significant milestones for its parks. In late February, the Midland City Council approved agreements with local sports associations to enhance recreational spaces for residents. Construction has commenced at the ExxonMobil Soccer Complex located in Beal Park, and a new outdoor fitness court has opened at Dennis the Menace Park.
