The Midland City Council is set to consider the allocation of a $4.2 million contract for the construction of a new lift station at the I-20 Wildlife Preserve as part of the Wall Street Sewer Diversion Project. Edgardo Madrid & Associates of Midland emerged as the preferred bidder.
Utilities Director Carl Craigo explained, "The collection system at the Wall Street and Midland Drive intersection is past its design capacity; the wastewater is prone to overflow at the intersection causing sewer to flow out of the manholes along Wall Street." This statement was made in a memo addressed to Midland Purchasing Manager Erika Martinez, which was included in the City Council's January 9 meeting agenda.
According to another memo addressed to Martinez and included in the same meeting agenda, the project will see the construction of a lift station off South Midland Drive just south of its intersection with West Industrial Avenue. Additionally, it will involve laying 935 linear feet of a 10-inch High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) force drain and 3,075 linear feet of 15-inch Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) gravity line.
Edgardo Madrid & Associates was identified as the sole bidding contractor in yet another memo sent to Martinez and included in the City Council's January 9 meeting agenda. The memo also mentioned that a contingency amounting to 15% of the total project cost, equivalent to $628,512, has been factored into the budget for this project.
