Midland Legacy wins outright District 2-6A title with 32-21 win over Odessa

Midland Legacy (8-2, 4-1) won their third straight to end the season, giving them sole possession of the District 2-6A title and knocking Odessa (5-5, 2-3) out of a playoff spot with a 32-21 win.

The Rebels had both the run and the pass working for them in the win, with 253 rushing yards and 222 passing yards. Tommy Johnson III and Madden Milloy each reached the century mark and scored a touchdown, with Johnson going for 137 yards on 22 carries and Milloy with 11 carries for 104 yards.

Quarterback Marcos Divila had a quality day throwing the ball, going 20-for-25 for 222 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. He also had two rushes for 12 yards. His top receivers were Aiden Serrano (five catches, 40 yards, one touchdown) and Brex Stephens (five catches 78 yards). Jordan Williams also had a good day with three catches for 63 yards. Caden Ellis caught a 14-yard touchdown, as well. The Serrano touchdown was a short pass that Serrano made moves and a stiff arm to get into the score from 12-yards out.

On defense, Gilbert Hernandez surged in for a big sack, that forced a fumble recovered by Emanuel Lide. Odessa quarterback Mikey Cota was pressured heavily by the defensive line, and one time led to to throwing off-balance into the hands of Max Vera.

Odessa had been getting huge games from Mikey Cota of late, but the wins haven’t been coming as it was their third straight loss to end the season after starting 5-2. This week Cota was 19-for-41 for 203 yards, one touchdown and one pick. He also had 12 carries for 59 yards.

Senior wide receiver Ivan Carreon had eight catches for 79 yards and a score. Julian Almance was also a top target with seven catches for 82 yards. Izek Lujan had two catches for 34 yards.

Dejuan Green had 20 carries for 107 yards, senior the senior running back scored twice.

Jayven Gonzales had 13 tackles and Zayne Minjarez tallied five tackles, while Christian Zubiate had a sack and two tackles.

Midland Legacy looks to build off their momentum in the playoffs with the Rebels lined up against Montwood (5-5, 5-3) on Nov. 9.
