Midland Mayor Lori Blong expressed joy in being able to attend the most recent Midland Bulldogs football game. Blog said it was her honor to participate as an honorary team captain for the pregame coin toss.

“The Midland High Bulldogs brought home a huge win against OHS last night and I’m so thankful I got to be there … I got to meet all our Dawgs down on the field,” she said in an Oct. 21 Facebook post.

Odessa CBS station KOSA News reported that the Bulldogs continued their pristine winning streak by defeating Odessa High School 59-28 to the delight of Blong and the crowd at Astound Broadband Stadium, which seats 15,000.

Midland Reporter-Telegram reported that Midland’s offense imposed its will easily, averaging 0.8 yards a play. Per the publication, Midland put on a track meet as Elijah McCoy steamrolled his way to 195 yards while Stroman Bridges chipped in 99. The victory gave the Bulldogs sole possession of first place in District 2-6A.

Blong couldn’t be any more excited. “I’m so proud of this team and of their hard work to arrive at an 8-0 record for the first time since 1954,” the mayor said on Facebook. “On ye Bulldogs!”

Up next for Midland is its highly anticipated matchup against crosstown rival Midland Legacy on Oct. 27.
