Non-profit organization Recording Library of West Texas recently held its annual Dining in the Dark fundraiser, aiming to raise awareness for individuals who are visually impaired. The event, which took place on October 17, was a success thanks to the donors, sponsors, guests, and volunteers involved.
In a Facebook post, the Recording Library expressed its gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event's success: "Thank you to all of our donors, sponsors, honorable guests and volunteers that were able to make this event a total success. It is because of your generosity we can continue to provide audio and resources to the blind and low vision community!"
During the Dining in the Dark event, attendees wore blindfolds and aprons to simulate the experience of eating as a person who is blind or has low vision. The dinner featured a four-course meal, including appetizers such as whiskey meatballs and grape and goat cheese bites, and entrees like seafood gumbo and chicken parmesan.
This year marked the eighth time that Recording Library of West Texas has organized the Dining in the Dark fundraiser. The organization, which has been in existence for 60 years, aims to assist the blind and visually impaired by recording audiobooks, textbooks, newspapers, local news, and other forms of media and literature. They also fulfill custom requests from their clients and operate a 24-hour station that broadcasts programs to help their clients.
The Recording Library operates solely on private donations and does not receive any government funding. Their Facebook post emphasized the importance of support from the community: "Your support provides audio to those who read by listening."
The Dining in the Dark event not only raised funds for the Recording Library of West Texas but also shed light on the daily challenges faced by those with visual impairments. Through their continued efforts, the organization is making a difference in the lives of individuals who rely on audio resources for their reading and information needs.
