University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) faculty member Dr. Omar Beg has published a book to help undergraduate electrical engineering students prepare for higher-level courses. Students nationwide can now purchase their copy of Beg’s “Foundations of Electrical Engineering.”

According to an Oct. 12 press release, Beg, who serves as UTPB Electrical Engineering Department Coordinator and an assistant professor, saw a need to introduce a course titled "Foundations of Electrical Engineering" that covered topics such as complex variables and discrete mathematics.

Per the release, Beg drew inspiration for the book from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) requirement to add advanced mathematics courses like differential equations, linear algebra, complex variables, and discrete mathematics into the electrical engineering curriculum.

Beg said his search for such a book was futile, so he took it upon himself to author, according to the university. He stated, “There is no single book available in the market to cover the topics of complex variables and discrete mathematics and their applications in electrical engineering. The main idea is to use this book as a textbook for the course ‘Foundations of Electrical Engineering.’”

"Foundations of Electrical Engineering" comprises of two sections, with Section 1 covering complex variables and Section 2 covering discrete mathematics. Each section is further divided into three chapters.

The university announced that the book is currently available in beta edition, with periodical revisions to take place, and can be bought at the campus bookstore or online at: linuslearning.com.
