When it comes to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers, Texas fast food chain Whataburger had a humorous take on the matchup. Referring to a famous NFL parent, Whataburger said, "Astros [versus] Rangers going to have us feeling like Travis Kelce’s mom at the Super Bowl."
The comment was made on October 11th after the defending World Series champion Astros eliminated the Minnesota Twins from the MLB postseason. Whataburger's reference to Travis Kelce's mom at the Super Bowl alluded to Super Bowl LVII earlier this year. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, the Eagles' Jason Kelce, played in the Super Bowl with their mother, Donna, watching from the stands. Travis emerged as the victor, as the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 to win the game.
This year's ALCS between the Astros and the Rangers is the first time the two teams have met in a postseason matchup, according to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU News. The Rangers secured their spot by sweeping the Baltimore Orioles, while the Astros advanced a day later. Although the Astros-Rangers rivalry may not have the same level of intensity as the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, there has been a history of bad blood between the two Texas teams since the Astros joined the AL over a decade ago.
The ALCS will begin in Houston, where the Astros will host Games 1 and 2, as reported by the Houston Daily. Despite struggling at home during the regular season, the Astros aim to secure victories in both matchups before heading to Arlington for Games 3 and 4. If necessary, Games 5, 6, and 7 will also be played. The ALCS is set to kick off on October 15th.
