On Aug. 23, the Midland Independent School District (MISD) announced in a press release that Maxine Gonzales, the principal at Henderson Elementary, has been named the Region 18 President for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) for the current academic year.
“In the leadership role within TEPSA, Ms. Gonzales will be able to use her experience as a data-driven decision maker to promote accountability throughout the state,” the MISD press release said. “Her hands-on approach and ability to drive transformation will bring fresh perspectives to TEPSA's initiatives.”
The public school district said that Gonzales, a native of the Permian Basin, will not only represent her home district but those across West Texas as well.
She began working for MISD in 2016 after teaching for the Lamesa Independent School District (LISD), per the release.
“While serving as a teacher and instructional coach, she developed multiple professional training programs for teachers that empowered them to create environments that promote learning,” the district said.
Since joining MISD, she has participated in the Aspiring Principals Academy and the Superintendent Internship Program, which made it possible for her to assume the role of principal.
"My years in education have shown me the incredible potential of our students and educators," Gonzales said in the release. "I am honored to serve in this role and serve the families and students of MISD."
Member-owned and member-governed, TEPSA has served Texas pre-kindergarten to eighth grade (PK-8) school leaders since 2017, its website says. It lists over 6,000 members and is divided into 20 regions.
