The City of Midland has revealed its plans to address the ongoing flooding across the city and improve road safety for vehicles and pedestrians, a recent Your Basin report said.
The projects will help the ecological, recreational and aesthetic state of the city, as well as help with flood mitigation. They will span several roads, which are vulnerable to flood conditions, making it unsafe to drive when it rains.
The reconstruction of A Street will prioritize storm drain improvements.
“Still, improvements at Wadley Avenue and adjacent roads to Windlands Park and Tumbleweed Park are needed to maximize the impact of the A Street project,” the report stated.
The city also confirmed plans to launch a project designed to eliminate the low-water crossing at Golf Course Road, east of Fairgrounds Road. The projects will include Scharbauer Drive to match Golf Course Road “east of the low-water crossing and the construction of a cul-de-sac at Golf Course Road west of the low-water crossing,” the Your Basin report stated. “This low-water crossing becomes inundated with stormwater and must be closed during frequent rain events.”
In addition, property owners based adjacent to these streets and within the regulatory 100-year floodplain are required to buy annual flood insurance.
The projects will help the ecological, recreational and aesthetic state of the city, as well as help with flood mitigation. The City of Midland is currently open to considering all options for funding, including grant funding.
