Legacy senior pitcher Chase Shores has been invited to play alongside 50-plus draft-eligible prospects at the 2022 Area Code Select games, Feb. 6, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shores, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound right-hander has signed with Louisiana State University but will get a hard look from major league scouts attending a pair of two seven-inning games. He also will also participate in a team workout on Feb. 5 at the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, according to the Midland Times.
Shores’ fastball has been clocked at 95 mph. He was 9-0 with a 1.65 ERA during his junior season last year with the Rebels when he recorded 61 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 46 2/3 innings.
He is the top Texas high school prospect in the upcoming Major League Baseball amateur draft, according to MLB.com, and the No. 60 overall prospect. The highly respected Baseball America ranks him at No. 70 overall.
Shores has said his motto for success is to “outwork everyone and have no belief whatsoever in how others look at you and judge you just go out there and silence them all with your success,” he told Baseball Prep Report.
His visit to Dodger Stadium will be the fourth major league stadium Shores has played in since June.
